70 patients who were held at Kisii Teaching and Referral hospital after they failed to raise the medical bills have a reason to smile after they were released from the facility.
Speaking at his office on Monday, the facility’s head, William Otuka, said the hospital management released the patients to ease congestion.
“After consultation with management, we decided to release the 70 patients who have been at the facility for the last 3 months after they failed to pay bills. Through this we will be able to ease congestion and create more space to accommodate more patients,” he said.
Otuka said the facility is committed to improving service delivery to the people and not making money by holding patients who fail to raise medical bills.
He, however, urged residents to apply for NHIF card so that they can have their medical bills catered for when they seek treatment.
“We have done a favor to free the 70 patients. Residents should apply for NHIF scheme so that they can have their medical bills paid whenever they seek medical attention at the facility,” he said.
Michael Achuti, one of the patients congratulated KTRH management for coming into their rescue after spending 3 months at the facility.
