Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Fred Matiang’i has assured teachers in North Eastern region (Garissa, Mandera, Wajir, Marsabit and Isiolo) of their security ahead of the start of Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) and Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams next month.
Matiang’i says that there is no need for teachers and candidates to worry as the government has deployed more security personnel in the region.
Speaking at Kenya School of Government when he held a closed-door meeting with North Eastern leaders on Monday, Matiang’i said that security has been tightened up in North Eastern and other parts of the country“
"I want to assure teachers, public servants and students in North Eastern and other parts of the country of their safety ahead of national examination next month,” he said.
Matiang’i said that the country will not be threatened by Al-Shabaab terror militants.
“We are not going to surrender any part of our county to terror groups or criminal thugs,” he said.
The Interior CS condoled with families of two teachers who lost their lives after suspected Al-Shabaab militants stormed Arabia secondary school in Mandera last week.
A section of North Eastern leaders has been urging the national government to boost security in the region ahead of national exams.
