For 11-year-old Keisha Wamaitha, gymnastics is a part of her life she cannot do without. Hers is a story of what passion, determination and dedication coupled together can yield.
At just the age of seven years, little Wamaitha first performed her gymnastic feat and it stunned her family. Surprisingly, they thought it was a one-time thing, but it later turned out that she would develop an enviable passion for gymnastics forthwith.
The self-trained acrobat turned to online tutorials where she honed her gymnastic skills and before long, she set out on a journey that has awed many people due to her perfection in the gymnastic feats she does.“She just did everything on her own. Accessing YouTube through her mum's iPad and got to learn a few moves and later presenting the moves to the parents like 'Dad..mum see what I can do',” Wamaitha’s cousin, Zachary Gathogo recounts in an interview with Hivisasa.
Wamaitha who lives with her parents in South B, Nairobi and schools at Riara Springs Academy has been accorded necessary support by her family and her colleagues back in school.
Her training ground is in her house’s backyard which has well-maintained carpet grass, Gathogo further reveals.“At home, she's been received positively and even made for a backyard with carpet grass where she spends most of her time when not in school. In school, she's loved and gets to perform occasionally in events like the prize giving days,” observes Gathogo who had earlier shared stunning photos of the little girl performing some of her stunts on Twitter.
With her talent though, Wamaitha does not want to pursue it as a career – she wants to be a journalist one day.
For the gymnastics, she says she will pursue it as a hobby. Her parents are already looking for a coach to help her get to the next level.
