Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria now wants President Uhuru Kenyatta to disband the coffee task force.
Speaking on Monday, the controversial legislator contended that the task force had failed spectacularly in its mandate.
He said that it had failed to administer sound advice to coffee societies with regard to debts.
"I have seen the coffee task force that was formed by the president saying that coffee societies have debts yet we said that those debts should be written off. The debts are here again when the task force is here.
"Their only work is to eat mandazis in big hotels talking about coffee issues. There is no work that they are doing. Now they want a one-year extension to look into the issue of debts," Kuria said.
Kuria advised the coffee societies to borrow funds from the government and not private entities, saying that borrowing from private entities was plunging coffee farmers into debt traps.
The coffee task force was formed by President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2016 with the express aim of looking into the issues that the coffee industry is facing and come up with recommendations.
He urged the government to disburse funds coffee-producing counties that will be channeled towards marketing of the produce abroad.
