Police in Mathare have gunned down five suspected thugs in what authorities claim to be an intensified war on crime.
According to reports, two of those killed were pulled from their houses and killed, two others were killed in a funeral while the last was pulled from hospital where he was allegedly receiving treatment from bullet wounds.
However, human rights groups say that police killed the suspects as a revenge measure.
Mathare Social Justice Network official Kennedy Chindi has said that they have reported the matter to the Independent Policing Oversight Authority for investigations.
“There is a police officer who was shot dead by thugs in Mathare North near the Homechoice supermarket, now police are on a rampage of killing innocent youths,” he said.
