Kisumu Governor Peter Anyang Nyong’o may not vie for the second term due to the unstable health condition that seems to have bothered him for some time.
Citing recent occurrences, the county chief's health seems to be deteriorating despite him showing up in public functions including the ordination of Philip Anyolo in Kisumu when he suddenly complained of pain and had to be rushed to the hospital for specialized treatment.
The professor may also want to shelve his ambitions in order to join his family that majorly lives in the states and concentrate on strengthening family ties.
Nyong’o who has had a very fruitful political life has been faced with disquiet between him and some assembly members over the county budget issues and allowances and could want to avoid this.
The political quagmire and cold within his life party, ODM could be another reason.
Despite him being a Raila Odinga ally for many decades, Nyong’o seems to have fallen in the party’s order with ‘interference’ from the party in his mandate to deliver for the people of Kisumu county.
Once he makes it public, his deputy Dr Mathew Ochieng Owili is in pole position to succeed him as the county boss as he has had a compact working relationship with his boss.
DR.Owili has also built a close working relationship with the party’s structures which may propel him to the top sea come 2022.
