It looks like the battle over the controversial Finance Bill 2018 is not yet over despite President Uhuru Kenyatta ascending it into law.
The Bill was controversially passed in a stormy National Parliament special siting last Thursday.
According to Moiben Member of Parliament Silas Tiren, a group of legislators are collecting evidence from the sitting they hope will help them in challenging the constitutionality of the Bill in court.
“Some people are arranging to go to court. Currently, they are putting the information together and see how to challenge the outcome of that vote,” said Tiren who has been branded as a rebel in the Jubilee party.
The legislator further hit out at the Speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi whom he accused of taking sides during the session.
He said MPs should impeach the Speaker and assembly party leadership over the sitting that passed the Finance Bill.
“It is clear that a majority of MPs who were in parliament wanted VAT on fuel is brought down to zero but what came out as the result was the opposite. It is also unfortunate that the speaker who has a legal background allowed to be used,” said Tiren.
“We now have to deal with the Speaker, Duale (majority leader), Mbadi (minority leader) and Junet Mohammed and Ben Wasiali. Passing a vote of no confidence against those individuals is the only way we can make Kenyans take us seriously,” he added.
The two-time legislator further termed Thursday’s events at parliament as an embarrassment to a house that Kenyans look at for legislations.
