Murang'a Senator Irungu Kang'ata has vehemently opposed a proposal to impeach Deputy President William Ruto.
The Senator said that he will not support the motion to dethrone Ruto if tabled in the Senate by his Siaya counterpart James Orengo.
Speaking to Nation on Tuesday, Kang'ata, who is also the Senate Majority Deputy Whip, said Senators allied to Jubilee will reject the motion since the party leadership has not issued a directive over the matter.
"We have not received instructions from the party leader Uhuru Kenyatta for such a move. Therefore we are not party to it," he said.
Kang'ata observed that the debate was likely to raise political temperatures in the country and deny President Kenyatta an opportunity to implement his Big Four agenda and leave a lasting legacy.
"Our views are that we shall stick with his Excellency the President who has told us to shun politics and concentrate on development," the vocal lawmaker said.
Orengo has maintained that Ruto is unfit to hold the office of Deputy President for allegedly being at the centre of every corruption scandal and vowed to push for his removal over "gross misconduct".
Speaking on Sunday, the Senator, who is a Senior Counsel, exuded confidence that lawmakers allied to Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and Jubilee Party will back his motion to impeach Ruto.
