Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i on Friday attended the burial of Andrew Nyachwaya, the father of Nyamira County Women representative Jerusha Momanyi, at Bosiango village in Gachuba, Nyamira County.
Matiang'i addressed residents for the first time since he was promoted to a powerful position in government.
He said he will not forget where he comes from.
"Every loves his or her home. I will not run away from home just because I was promoted. I'm ready to work with every leader to bring development to Gusii region," he said amid cheers from mourners.
Mr Matiang'i noted that he is the son of the soil and therefore appealed to members of the community to continue praying for him so that he can deliver in his new roles.
"I'm your son, so don't disown me. Support me where necessary so that I can offer my services diligently to all Kenyans," stated Matiang'i.
The former education minister assured that he will push for more development in Gusii region.
"A good leader is who develops where he comes from. Gusii region will experience accelerated development," he added.
