27 years after the death of purported Legio Maria founder Simeo Melkio Ondetto, the church believers are still sure that he will once again rise to lead them.

Buried in Got Kwer in Suna West, his followers have turned the 100-acre hill into their prayer site as they await the resurrection of their 'messiah'.

In charge of the hill, is Lawrence Obonyo and other followers who hold different positions at the shrine which has also been attracting religious tourists.

The place is a holy one, says Father George Magero, a senior church leader, and one must take off their shoes once at the entrance.

“This is a holy place. You need to take off your shoes,” he is quoted by the Standard.

With the main church at the peak, the hill is divided into four parts and areas act as houses for church leaders, the elderly and caretakers of the place.

At the foot of the hill is Ondetto's grave housed in one of the houses which are considered holy.

The grave is covered in a white cloth.

The believers believe that one day the cloth and the grave will be gone and the 'pope' who died in 1992 will be back on his feet to lead his people.

Whether the dream will be realized or not, only time can tell.
