Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi now says the relationship between the Kalenjin and Kikuyu community will not be ending anytime soon.
The MP who spoke to journalists in Eldoret town further says the relationship between the two populous communities in the country is not based on elections only.
Responding to utterances by immediate former Jubilee party Vice-chairman David Murathe, Sudi said the Kalenjins and Kikuyus agreed to work together for the benefit of the country.
“I want to remind Murathe that he was not there when these two communities agreed to work together. At first, many did not believe that Kikuyus and Kalenjins would unite but it happened,” noted the vocal MP.
“That unity is not only based on voting only but it came after we realized that the biggest problem for the country during elections was as a result of the two communities fighting,” he added.
The two communities voted as a block in 2013 and 2017 general elections in favour of President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto after agreeing to work together following the 2007 post-election violence where members of the communities were the most affected.
As the country heads to the 2022 polls, the unity is now under threat with some dissenting voices from both sides but Sudi, a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto says “only God is holding our relationship with Kikuyus.”
