Deputy President William Ruto has been told to declare his stand of the government's National Integrated Identity Management System (NIIMS).

President Uhuru Kenyatta launched NIIMS official registration, referred to as Huduma Namba, in Machakos last week.

However, his deputy raised eyebrows when he failed to show up in Kakamega where he had been scheduled to oversee a similar event.

Central Organisation of Trade Union (COTU) secretary general Francis Atwoli speaking on Saturday said the DP is yet to tell Kenyans of his stand.

"Watu wa tangatanga hawajaambia watu wachukue. Watu wa Rift valley wanasema wanangojea Ruto awaambie (The Tangatanga group has not told people to get Huduma Namba. Rift Valley residents say they are waiting for Ruto to give them the go ahead),” Atwoli said.

The vocal unionist, who has been at loggerheads with Ruto, said the DP should come out publicly and say if he doesn’t support the government’s move.

"He should declare his stand on this Huduma Namba. If he doesn't like it he should come out and tell us why,” he added.

After failing to attend the registration launch in Kakamega, the DP said he was held up in another state function.
