Residents of Bombaba Borabu in Kisii County are yet to come to terms after a nominated MCA Rose Mwene was attacked on Tuesday night by unknown assailants.
Locals have now claimed that the goons were hired by the MCA's political enemies.
"We are condemning the attack on the MCA with the strongest terms possible.
The security team should probe the matter and bring the culprits to book," said a local Dan Ogeto.
The residents accused police officers over laxity saying there are poor security patrols in the area.
"Police must wake up and conduct patrols more especially at night to keep off attackers. It is high time Interior CS Fred Matiang'i should intervene and ensure there is enough security" noted Walter Nyambeo.
Divinah Kemunto called on the government to provide security for female leaders. "Men may be out to attack women who have come out to vie for political seats.
The government should consider giving protection to the female leaders," she noted.
After the attack, the assailants left behind crude weapons and one sandal.
