The Old Nairobi and Bishop Muge roads in Eldoret town have now been officially handed over to the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) after they were fully completed.
According to the KURA director general Silas Kinoti, the two roads will help to decongest the town and open traffic which has been a menace in the Central Business District (CBD).
“The project was funded by the National Government at a cost of Sh750 million. This project has been substantially completed on time and the purpose of us being here today is to take over so that the road can open traffic,” said Kinoti in Eldoret town, Wednesday.
“In total, we have invested Sh4 billion in Eldoret town alone to expand the road network as the town gears up to get the city status,” he added.
Kinoti also revealed that for the past eight years, they have done over 50 kilometres of roads in Eldoret town.
He further said they are looking at ways to manage traffic in the Uasin Gishu's capital by installing Intelligent Transport System so that it can signalize all the junctions around and have real-time management of traffic.
The KURA boss further said the Authority faces challenges such as encroachment of the road reserves and relocating services such as sewer lines which are costly. He appealed to the public to use the roads for the purpose they were intended for.
