It took several hours before State House confirmed the identity of a lady soldier, who conspicuosly took over the position of aide-de-camp when President Uhuru Kenyatta visited Nyeri on Friday.
With social media users noticing absence of Lt. Colonel Timothy Stelu, a Navy officer who assumed the lecrative role in July, there was no doubt that another appointment, obviously a unique one, had taken place.
On State House Twitter account, Uhuru's communication team said: "President Kenyatta at the Kenya Music Festival Winners' State Concert.
"On duty is the new Assistant ADC, Lieutenant Colonel Rachel Nduta Kamui, from the Kenya Air Force who will be working alongside Lieutenant Colonel Timothy Lekolool."
Ms. Nduta, is a Lt. Colonel, a rank lower than a Colonel and above Major in Commissioned Officers rank.
She becomes the assistant to Mr. Stelu and was the first female officer to guard the president as ADC in a public function.
In the position that was traditionally meant for officers from Army, she becomes the first Kenya Air Force officer in the second republic to assume the roles.
Just like the official ADC, Ms. Nduta will serve as the president's personal assitant besides acting as official guard.
She will also open the president's official car whenever they travel besides sitting in the same vehicle with the Head of State.
The appointment of ADC is done by National Security Council upon recommendation by Defense Headquarters.
In recent weeks, Uhuru has explicitly shown confidence in women leadership after promoting Maj. General Fatuma Ahmed to the rank, the rank, the first female to hold the position since independence.
