In solidarity with President Uhuru Kenyatta's proposal to parliament, Raila had whiped NASA legislators to back Finance Bill 2018 that was widely rejected.

At Rangwe on Friday, Raila insisted that to deal with foreign debt, government ought to stop borrowing since it was becoming unbearable to people, adding that supporting the bill was the only way out to rescue the country.

“I realised that Kenya was borrowing funds from other countries but a few selfish leaders were stealing them.

"I will use the handshake to advise the Government to reduce the borrowing to avoid making life more unbearable to Kenyans,” said Raila.

Apparently, a host of MPs from his backyard openly opposed the bill on grounds that it was draconian and prejudicial to poor people.

Law Society of Kenya has vowed to move to court to challenge the new taxes on pretext that they are unconstitutional.

While addressing residents of Kisumu last weekend, Raila struggled to explain to his followers, some of who heckled him in his speech.
