Addressing a congregation in Endebes, Trans Nzoia, Waititu claimed that Raila took a chattered plane to Dubai with Zaheer to make shady deals.

According to the outspoken governor, Raila and Zaheer were paid handsomely for the gold.

"The former prime minister... Those who don't know him. I did not want him when he came with the hand shake because I know he's not an honest man.

"People should know him. He took a chattered jet with Zaheer to Dubai and took money. We want him to tell us how much money he took, " Governor Waititu said.

The fake gold revelations have gripped Kenyans and raised the political temperatures in the country.

Ruto and Raila allies have traded harsh words in the wake of arrests made in the fake gold probe.

Zaheer who is said to be at the centre of the syndicate's operations, has strongly rebuffed suggestions that he is one of the people selling fake gold.

Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula has been named as a person of interest in a probe initiated by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

A phone recording allegedly of a phone conversation between Wetangula and a man with an Arabic accent has been doing rounds on social media.
