According to an internal audit in 2015, only 3 years after President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto came to power, it was discovered that the party only enjoyed 42 percent of the backing it had earned in 2013.

Strategists observed that the party would not beat the 50 percent + 1 vote threshold as it sought reelection in 2017.

This would either lead to runoff of a defeat in the hands of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga-led side.

"Voters in Jubilee strongholds of Rift Valley and Mt Kenya total about 42 percent. This is not enough and provides a high possibility of a runoff.

The coalition as structured will gain less than 50 percent +1 in the first round,” the reported read, according to the Nation.

The strategists advised that the party would have it impossible regaining ground in the short time remaining, calling for the employment of plan B.

Consequently, the party embarked on plans to form smaller parties indirectly supported by the bigger party as was witnessed in North Eastern Kenya.

The party went ahead to win the election which was later annulled by the Supreme Court following Raila's successful petition.
