Deputy President William Ruto was in Murang'a County over the weekend where he launched a host of development projects in the vote-rich county.
However, as he went by his official duties, politics emanated and leaders from the Mt Kenya region asked him to select his deputy during the 2022 general elections from Murang'a, promising the former Eldoret North MP maximum support during the poll.
Among leaders who spoke during Ruto's rally was Murang'a Senator Irungu Kang'ata who asked the outspoken leader to pick Murang'a Governor Mwangi Wa Iria as his deputy in 2022.
"It is now the turn of Murang'a to produce such a leader," the senator said in the presence of Governor Wa Iria at Gaichanjiru High School, Kandara.
"We have waited for long and time is ripe for us. Murang'a is prepared for the challenge," he added.
And when Ruto's turn to speak came, the Deputy President did not disappoint the mammoth crowd in attendance when he said: "I have heard your views about Wa Iria in 2022, I will see."
Wa Iria is among three county chiefs who are presently being fronted to deputise Ruto in 2022. Others in the list are Amason Kingi (Kilifi) and Wycliffe Oparanya (Kakamega).
Ruto's list of likely deputies also includes Central Kenya leaders Kindiki Kithure (Tharaka Nithi Senator), Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya, Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waiguru and Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung'wa.
