So far, Western Kenya region appears as one of the most politically democratic regions in the nation as far as elections are concerned.

The region is known to scatter its votes during elections and has most of the times voted in a zigzag pattern, as was the case in the 2017 polls.

It seems to have failed to learn a thing or two from the neighbouring Nyanza region which appears more solidified towards one direction.

The region should emulate Nyanza and come together as a bloc during elections to avoid ending up divided after polls.

Currently, there is a portion of area leaders and voters siding with each of the ruling and opposition sides.

This is as opposed to Nyanza which is more settled, being well aware that it voted wholeheartedly for the opposition side.

Also, unlike Nyanza, Western Kenya has several kingpins which as well leads to confusion during times of need, resulting to slow progress.

While Nyanza has only opposition chief Raila Odinga, Western is torn between Musalia Mudavadi, Moses Wetangula and at some point Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa.

Consequently, it is never taken seriously by other politicians during the presidential race, well aware that they cannot get the entire vote.

A good example is right now when both Mudavadi and Wetangula have hinted at vying for the presidency, a seat also being eyed by Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya.

The voters have also been unable to like Nyanza, come clean on their preferred direction and block avoid being taken in circles by aspirants.

This has made it hard for it to give the nation a president courtesy of the disunity and inability to speak in one voice and push for a common goal.

This is not the case in Nyanza which had always offered the nation a presidential candidate in each poll, and who have always gone close to winning.

Western leaders have instead been supporting others, the groups rallying behind different aspirants.

If only Western emulated Nyanza, then Western Kenya politics would be more competitive and fun to watch.
