Hassan oversaw the 2013 general elections under the 2010 constitution.

He was, however, hounded from office following a push by opposition leader Raila Odinga in 2015.

Hassan and his team left office before their time had lapsed.

The former IEBC boss has taken a low profile since his exit from the electoral body.

Hassan who was born and raised in Garissa has not been seen in public after his ouster, raising questions on his whereabouts.

According to political pundit Peter Ngure, Hassan's unceremonious exit at IEBC was a blow to his career.

He says that the former IEBC boss had a vision for the electoral agency but claims of rigging destroyed his career.

“The claims of rigging the 2013 polls was the final nail to his legal career, though they have never been proved in any court,” he said.

There are, however, claims that Hassan could be aligning himself to venture into politics in 2022.

Ngure notes that the soft-spoken Hassan can make it to politics if he gives it a try.

Hassan has, however, not commented on whether he could opt for politics in 2022.
