Here are some of the features contained in the Kenyan note that you probably haven't noticed, but are key in distinguishing original from fake.

1. The elephant

Most Kenyans are only conversant with the lion head hidden towards the right side of each note, only visible if the bill if viewed against light.

However, there emerges another animal, an elephant if closely viewed, towards the left side, right under the lion.

Each bill has a see-through feature bringing out the image of an elephant when looked at against light, though it emerges as a single circle under the lion.

2. Varying security threads

Each legal bill has a security thread running from the top to the bottom, one of the measures put in place to distinguish valid from fake bills.

What most Kenyans are yet to observe is that the thread is larger and gives a color shift which changes basing on angle of view on the 1000 and 500 bills.

In the remaining 50, 100 and 200 bills, the thread is thinner and does not change its silver color.

3 Rough Kenyatta's coat

A keen observation will show you that the coat being worn by founding father mzee Jomo Kenyatta in the currency is rougher than any other place on the surface of each note.

Touching and feeling the note will help you reveal this hidden feature.

All these features are cleverly hidden in the money to keep away fraudulent persons seeking to illegally produce their own currency with the intention of spreading fake money.
