A local chief in Kisii County has warned expectant mothers against giving birth and throwing their newborn babies in pit latrines.
Bomariba Sub Location assistant chief Benjamin Ayuma said that he will not condone women conducting abortions, selling newborn babies or dumping infants in toilets.
"Murder is an offence which is punishable by law. I am warning women against conceiving and upon giving birth, dumping those babies in latrines. Such women will not have room to continue living in my area," he said.

The administrator regretted an incident where a barmaid gave birth and dumped her newborn in a toilet at Igonga area on Thursday.
"I am still in shock that Brenda gave birth only ended up dumping the infant in the toilet. Luckily the baby was rescued and she is in custody. She must face the full force of the law to serve as an example to others," he added.
He called on parents to ensure their daughters who become pregnant are giving birth and not dumping the infants or conducting abortions.
