In an event presided over by Patrick Ntutu who is the Chief Administrative secretary at the Ministry of Interior, Garissa County was rewarded with the assets as a way of rewarding the local community for having hosted Somalia refugees for decades.

Speaking while receiving an agreement containing the proceeds from Kamboos and Ifo2 camps, Garissa County secretary Abdi M Ali stated the assets will go a great way in helping the locals.

He further assured that the assets will serve its intended purpose of improving the livelihoods of Garissa locals.

"We appreciate receiving assets that will be of great importance to the host community and we have the responsibility to ensure that it serves its intended purpose," said the County official.

The latest development comes even as the Kenyan government in conjunction with the global refugee agency UNHCR gets to its final touches to permanently shut down the Dadaab refugee camps which have been blamed for the rising cases of terrorism and radicalization in the country.
