Long serving former Starehe MP, a close ally of President Uhuru Kenyatta has ignited storm over 2022 succession politics.
At musician Joseph Kamaru's funeral, unmoved Kamanda sneaked into to programme and warned Mt. Kenya leaders against 'actioning' Kikuyu votes.
“We as Kikuyu do not have another leader or spokesman except President Kenyatta. Even after five years into your retirement Mr President, you will still be our spokesman.
"Some people (read Kikuyu MPs) should stop taking Kikuyus for granted. Kikuyus will not to be taken to market place to be sold like commodities,” thundered Mr Kamanda.
Back at the main dais, President Uhuru Kenyatta was pictured smiling thus raising eyebrows about who Kamanda was speaking for.
When he lost Jubilee nominations to musician Jaguar, Kamanda got a lifeline when Uhuru influenced his nomination to EALA.
Political scientist Gideon Mamboleo believes that Mr. Kamanda could be reading from Uhuru's script.
"He warned against early campaigns besides remanding Mt. Kenya leaders that Uhuru is in charge. He also backed the handshake and referendum, an indication that he has Uhuru's blessings," he said.
A section of young politicians from the region led by Kimani Ichungwah have been supporting DP William Ruto's 2022 ambitions.
Even though in the past he had backed Ruto's bid, Uhuru seems disinterested over the succession duel, focusing on working with Raila Odinga.
