Ramadhan is a time when Muslims observe fasting and abstaining from anger, sex or any alcoholic drink. They consider this ninth month in Islam the holiest in their calendar.
This month is guided by five pillars namely:
1. Believing in one GOD and Muhammad as His last prophet,
2. Praying five times a day
3. Fasting
4. Give zadat
5. Going to Mecca if one can afford
According to Suleiman Shahbal, this is a month made to repent, ask God for forgiveness and avoid sinning. It is also a month to give to charity and visit the less fortunate. It does not matter whether they are your close relatives or friends.
Therefore, Muslims should not indulge in these acts during this month:
1. Staying idle
Muslims are not allowed to be inactive as a result of fasting. They are advised to be productive throughout the month.
2. Excess sleep
They are entitled to fasting, praying and reciting the Quran day and night.
3. Holding on grudges
Muslims should forgive whoever wronged them before during this month and ask for God's grace to forget.
4. Fried foods and those with a high content of sugar and salt
These increases energy leading to fatigue, exhaustion and dehydration.
Ramadhan Kareen!
