Deputy President William Ruto has asked opposition politicians named in fake gold scandal to stop dragging President Uhuru Kenyatta’s name into their illegal gold business.
Speaking at Chepchoina Immaculate Catholic Church in Trans Nzoia County on Saturday, DP Ruto asked those named into the fake gold scandal to carry their crosses alone.He said that Kenyans know that president Kenyatta is focused on pushing the country's development agenda forward.The Deputy President claimed political brokers went to Dubai and are now engaging in fake gold business.“These people who are political con-men who are now doing fake gold business should answer their questions and leave our president alone," the Deputy President said.Other politicians who accompanied DP Ruto at the church service asked opposition leader Raila Odinga to state what he knows about the fake gold scandal.Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu asked those named in the scandal to stop mentioning president Kenyatta and instead tell investigators their involvement in the scam.Investigation into the alleged fake gold scandal business that has implicated politicians is on top gear.The Director of Criminal Investigation (DCI) George Kinoti has since confirmed that Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula is under probe over the alleged fake gold syndicate in the country.On Friday, a leaked audio clip emerged online where a voice suspected to be of Wetangula mentions the names of ODM Party leader Raila Odinga, President Kenyatta and Interior Cabinet Fred Matiang'i to assure a Dubai gold investor that their alleged detained consignment would be released.
