Speaking to the Kenyan media on Sunday after the game at Camp Toyoyo, the DP pinned down the defeat to a cocktail of factors, top among them tension in the squad, captain Victor Wanyama being overmarked by the Algerians, and the quality of the Algerian squad.

"This was not our game from the look of things. Wanyama was certainly overmarked. There was a bit of tension in the team and the coordination was not together.

"I think it is just good to say this wasn't our game but we want to encourage the boys that they did their best in the circumstances. Algeria, of course, is a good team. Let's bid for the future. Let's look for the next game and see what it's going to be like, " Deputy President Dr Ruto said.

The Harambee Stars will take on the Taifa Stars of Tanzania who lost 2-0 to the Lions of Taranga of Senegal, hoping to win to breathe life into their AFCON campaign.

DP Ruto encouraged the Kenyan squad, saying that millions of Kenyans were behind them ahead of their next match against Tanzania.
