The Director of Public Prosecutions has weighed in on the prospect of legal charges against Kakamega Hospital days after DNA test results on the Melvies, Sharon and Melon came out.
Speaking in Kajiado on Tuesday to members of the press, DPP Noordin Haji said that prosecution was not the only solutions.
Other avenues of redress such as diversion and plea bargaining could be explored depending on what will be seen to be appropriate.
"Prosecution is not the only solution. There is diversion. There is what we are calling issues of plea bargaining and alternative dispute resolution. So if they opt for that, it is also good, " the DPP said.
DNA test results establishee that Melon and Sharon are identical twins and that Melvies is not their sister.
The twins have said that they don't have intentions of suing the Kakamega Hospital where they were allegedly switched at birth.
Sleuths from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have been carrying Investigations to determine the circumstances of the switch.
Both families of the three girls have vowed to stay together and work out a way forward that will be beneficial to all involved.
Melon and Sharon discovered each other on Facebook early this year after noticing a striking resemblance between them.
The three girls have been undergoing intense psychological counseling to help them cope with the profound implications of the DNA test results.
