A section of Uasin Gishu County residents now want the Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary-General Francis Atwoli to apologize to the Deputy President (DP) William Ruto.
This follows his utterances during a funds drive for a women sacco in Lamu, where he said that the deputy president’s name will not be on the ballot come 2022.
Speaking to the press in Eldoret town on Monday, they said that his utterances are divisive and ill-intended.
“As residents from the deputy president’s backyard we are really disappointed with Atwoli’s utterances, it is for God to know who will be on the ballot. We know Ruto will be president come rain come sunshine,” said William Rono.
They noted that there is a scheme by some few individuals to deny Ruto the presidency come 2022 but they won’t succeed.
“It’s only God who elects leaders and not sycophants like Atwoli. We want Atwoli to tell us what he wants to do to the deputy president so that he will not be on the ballot and if anything happens to him he will be responsible,” added Korir John.
They called on the Directorate of Criminal Investigation to investigate Atwoli’s utterances since they amount to threatening the DP.
The residents urged Atwoli to front his preferred candidate for the presidency rather than using threats and intimidation.
