Micah Herbert Magajia, a poultry farmer who hails from Dago area in Kisumu East Sub County said his fear is being forced out of the poultry business with their Ugandan counterparts.

“The big concern is that Ugandan poultry will flood our regional market and we won’t compete them on the basis of the price, we fear their pricing will be much lower owing to their large production and this will block our own products into our own market because the cost of feeding in Kenya is too high,” said Magajia.

In an exclusive interview, the farmer noted that Agribusiness and Food Security which is one of the big four agenda has failed as the government was committing to trade deals that are openly unbalanced to the detriment of its own citizens.

Magajia who trades under Kisumu Poultry Factory Owners revealed that they were trained as poultry farmers by the Kisumu county government which saw them start poultry farming within Kisumu.

He has been in the business for six months now, depending solely on poultry farming and now wants the government to reverse its decision.

A few days ago, president Uhuru and his Ugandan counterpart inked a deal which will see Ugandan products such as eggs, chicken, petroleum, and sugar imported to Kenya.
