Mr Barrack Oduor is nursing serious injuries at the Aga Khan Hospital in  Kisumu, after he reportedly jumped off a speeding car in which he was being held by his kidnappers at Nyangweso Market, along the Kisumu-Homa Bay Road.

Speaking from his hospital bed on Tuesday, Oduor who covers the larger Homa Bay region said that he resorted to the daring act after being forced into a suspicious car with tainted windows.

Oduor and a photojournalist had gone to meet a source who also doubles up as Migori Governor Okoth Obado’s Personal Assistant, who was to equip them with information about a scandal in the county.

The venue for the meeting with the source identified as Michael Oyamo would later change to Rongo in Migori, after which things took the unexpected direction.

"The governor's personal assistant had initially called the lady, Sharon, for us to meet for a tip-off in Rodi Kopany township (in Homa Bay) but changed the venue of the meeting to Rongo town in Migori County," he is quoted by the Nation.

Mr Oyamo later showed up and had a car waiting to take them to the ‘favorable’ place for the meeting, but would later alight after two tall and mean-looking men stopped the car within the town and took over.

Oyamo and his colleague were later ordered to surrender their belongings, after which the men began torturing them, forcing him to jump off mid way.

‘’We were ordered to switch off our phones and hand them over to one of the men in the vehicle,’’ he is further quoted.

He sustained serious tissue injuries in his palms, back, elbows and arms in the process which worsened when the thugs made an attempt to chase after him before a good Samaritan saved him and drove him to the nearby police post and later the Kendu Bay Police Station.

Confirming the incident, Kendu Bay Criminal Investigations Officer Joseph Ngare said that they are pursuing the case.

"We have received the report and consequently launched investigations into the matter," he is quoted.
