The region has since independence fronted a presidential candidate, but is yet to taste power, and is once again likely to do the same in 2022 through opposition chief Raila Odinga.

Though silent, for now, it is very likely that the former Premier will battle it out with his main critic and Deputy President William Ruto whose bid is already in the public domain.

The region will have to choose between its own son who has for long flown its flag, but a man who has repeatedly failed it by failing to win the seat for four times, thrice in a row.

This could also mean voting in favour of Raila's choice in the instance that he decides to keep off the race and endorse someone else.

On the other hand is a neighbour's son, since Ruto hails from Rift Valley region, a neighbouring community whose contact with Nyanza began during the early days of Luanda Magere.

The region will have a choice to vote for a man who apparently has one of his legs in the statehouse courtesy of his closeness to the top seat.

Nyanza will have only these two to pick if it is to find itself in government after the polls, as they are the most likely to carry the day at the end of the day.

Which way for Nyanza in 2022? Only time will tell.
