Residents of Kisumu and the larger Nyanza region have had mixed reactions concerning the awaited Supreme Court ruling on Governor Cyprian Awiti's election which is expected to be delivered at 2 PM.
Kisumu County’s Railways Ward Representative Pastor David Arao has urged residents to embrace outcome of the ruling whatever the verdict.
“As a politician, I cannot speak much about a case that is in court, but I would like to urge residents of the county to accept the court’s verdict. I know it will be bad for some people but we must accept and move on,” he said in an exclusive interview with Hivisasa.
“Almost everything has come to a standstill in Homabay. Today’s ruling will signal another chapter. Security officers must ensure they maintain law and order,” added Arao.
A section of Kisumu residents said they expect justice to be served today.
“I am looking forward to the judgment. I hope justice will be served to all parties,” said Alice Omondi a resident of Obunga Estate.
“I expect the court to rule in favour of Governor Awiti. He should be given time to finish his second term in peace,” said Arnold Otieno, another Obunga resident.
Kisumu Court of appeal nullified Awiti’s win in August last year before the county boss took his fight to serve his second term as Homa Bay Governor to the highest court in the land.
Before then, the Homabay High Court had in February 2018 nullified the governor’s re-election.
The initial case was filed by Governor Awiti’s main rival, former Kasipul Member of Parliament Joseph Oyugi Magwanga.
