Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko is in trouble over his plan to build 17 swimming pools in the city.
Sonko on Monday said each of the 17 constituencies in Nairobi will get one swimming pool that will be used by the youth as recreational facilities as well as for competitions.
Sonko posted on his official Facebook page: "My administration is set to embark on the construction of sports fields and public swimming pools in all the 17 constituencies in the county. I intend to put up football, basketball and cricket stadiums, and public swimming pools at least in each of Nairobi's 17 constituencies."
He said the investment aims at helping nurture talent and also keep the youth busy through sports.
"The construction of football fields will help our youth stay away from criminal activities as they will be engaged in sports activities. The initiative will also help talented individuals to improve their talents."
But Kenyans, as usual sprung up and told the county chief off over the multi-million investment.
"Will this stadium create jobs for our youth or it will be like City Stadium and Nyayo Stadium? Please forget about the stadium as it’s not going to help our youth. Create institutions that will help our young men and women," said Jason Cunliffe.
Another response came from a one Reginah Julius who said: "So sad! It is taking us hours to access our church whereas it took us minutes to get there before this project was initiated I think someone is sleeping on the job! Where is our access road to the church? The stadium might be meaningless if we will continue suffering going to our place of worship. How will this solve the insecurity in Dandora?"
"Hehe! And the roads are bad? I am tired," said Marsh Malo before Winnie Ndegwa posted saying: "We need water and good roads first."
