KNUT Secretary General Wilson Sossion has maintained that the teachers strike slated for Wednesday is still on.
The strike is meant to protest the ongoing teacher delocalization, which KNUT argues it is ruining families.
The strike will also be used to push for promotions by the employer Teachers Service Commission.
The government through the labour ministry appointed a conciliation team that was tasked with bringing the two parties on the same table.
“We have had a long engagement with the team from the Ministry of Labour. We really don’t have any good news for Kenyans and the children of Kenya. We have made our oral submissions to them,” said Sossion.
He added: “TSC must suspend forthwith the purported transfer and handing over of teachers as a precondition to further dialogue with us.”
In a press briefing on Saturday, Sossion said that the transfer of teachers has been conducted without consulting the relevant stakeholders.
“Delocolisation has been done without consultation. TSC was clearly instructed to stop what it’s doing. Papers have been exchanged but the hearts of teachers are still unmoved,” added Session
