Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu has asked university students to stop running after older men and women to sponsor their lifestyles.
Speaking in Kitui Town on Tuesday, the Governor instead asked university students to focus on their studies.
She said that it is pointless for young men and women to run for older men and women and end up dying mysteriously.
Ngilu noted that the gruesome and mysterious murder cases being reported in the country revolves around love affairs gone sour.
“There is no point of running for sugar mummies and daddies and end up dying young,” she said.
The governor blamed moral decay and lack of societal values to rising cases of murder.
She said that young people have no role models and end up in the wrong hands.
Ngilu pleaded with university management to come up with mentorship programs for their students.
The governor at the same time asked the government to speed up the probe into mysterious murder cases that have been reported recently.
“The government agencies must unravel the causes of the murder cases and ensure legal action is taken against the culprits,” she said.
Detectives are probing the mysterious murder of Rongo university student Sharon Otieno.
