Tension is brewing in Garissa Town over possible retaliatory attacks following the attempted assignation of a former finance CEC Idris Mukhtar who served in the former Nathif Jama's government.
This writer visited the CEC's local home where friends and relatives had gathered to conduct their own investigations into the matter.
Led by village elders, the locals have opted to conduct their own parallel investigations despite the fact that security agencies have already taken up the matter.
Speaking in hushed tones, the locals feel that the murder was politically instigated.
According to a close relative who spoke on condition of anonymity, there are a lot of speculations on the bloody shooting and a retaliation might ensue if police do not unravel the real masterminds in the incident.
“For now, there are very many speculations on why and how the man was attacked. We are afraid this may eventually lead to a bloody retaliation. But we hope the investigating police will move with speed and let us get the faces behind the attempted murder irrespective of their political or social status,” disclosed a family member of the shooting victim.
The media was barred from following the proceedings over what was alleged as the family's current position on the issue.
