1.David Beckham’s in 1998David Beckham’s biggest moments in his international career was in the 1998 world cup match against Argentina in the quarterfinal. After being fouled by the current Athletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone, he went ahead to knock him down using his head. 

This earned him a red card and one of the worst in football history. It led to his England team being defeated by Argentina.

2. Francesco Totti’s in 2002In the 2002 world cup match against South Korea, Francesco Totti received a red card for diving. He dived in the extra-time, which led to the referee giving him a second yellow card and thus a red card. Many cursed him for his action which led to his team being defeated.

3. Wayne Rooney’s in 2006In the 2006 world cup, Rooney got sent off for a foul he committed on Portugal’s Ricardo Carvalho. This red card got famous as his then Manchester United teammate Cristiano Ronaldo contributed to his sending off. He stamped on Carvalho’s sensitive areas, and Ronaldo was there protesting for a red card. He winked to the Portuguese bench after Rooney’s red card.

4. Zinedine Zidane’s in 2006The most dramatic send-off in a world cup final. He got a red card when he head-butted Italy’s Marco Materazzi to the ground for abusing him. He later revealed that Materazzi had provoked him with abusing comments on his sister, which angered him.

5. Luis Suarez’s in 2010Luis Suarez flew to deny Ghana a goal in the 2010 World Cup quarterfinal using his hand in the penalty area. He was given a red card and Ghana awarded a penalty, which unfortunately Asamoah Gyan thrashed over the post. Luis Suarez was the happiest man after his team qualified even after his send off.
