Two middle-aged men escaped death narrowly after they were caught with a stolen cow.
The incident happened on the wee hours of Tuesday morning in Nyamecheo village, Bogusero, Mosocho in Kisii County.
Area assistant chief Simon Mbwayo said the suspects Enock Marando and Ezekiel Ondigo are among the notorious gang stealing from people in the area.
"Marango and Ondigo were caught driving away a cow they had stolen by Boda boda riders who were going to work at 3 am. They were asked to stop and explain where they were taking the cow at the time of the night in vain prompting the riders to raise alarm," said the chief.
Mr. Mbwayo said members of the public responded quickly to the alarm and chased after the suspects who abandoned the stolen cow.
"The public didn't manage to apprehend the thieves who managed to escape into a nearby maize farm. The stolen cow was recovered," said Mbwayo.
He assured that a manhunt has been launched to arrest the suspects.
The administrator warned local youths against engaging in crime saying the law won't spare them.
He noted that the cow was stolen from Bogeka village.
"The cow was returned to the owner. Residents should be on high alert and report anyone they suspect is stealing livestock," he added.
