The project will see the 3,000 square metres bus park upgraded to include passenger sheds and a three-meter cabro footpath.

Part of the money will also be channelled towards the tarmacking of the two kilometres Kiambu Bypass road that stretches from KK Towers to St Peter and Paul Catholic Church.

Speaking during the launch of the project, Governor Waititu said that the project shall be all inclusive as he has directed the contractor to employ local youth.

He further urged residents to exercise patience because of the anticipated traffic that may be caused by the project.

“I ask all the youth seeking jobs to see this contractor as he shall be employing some of you to take up menial jobs in this project. Let us further exercise patience in case there will be traffic on the road as I have also directed the contractor to expedite the construction works," said Waititu.

The Kiambu bus park is among the busiest bus stations in Nairobi and Kiambu counties as it serves several towns.

Its construction is expected to enhance safety in the transport sector, ease congestion in Kiambu town and spur economic development.

The project is part of the '11 Projects in Three Days' programme launched by Waititu on Monday. The programme will see the county boss launch 11 projects in Thika, Juja, Ruiru, Kiambu, Kiambaa, Limuru and Kikuyu sub-counties.

Waititu also launched a two-storey fire station in Thimbigua, Kiambaa sub-county. The fire station becomes the seventh fully fledged fire station in the county in line with the county government’s bid of becoming the best in firefighting and disaster management.

Other projects launched include the tarmacking of the three-kilometre Kanjiku-Gituamba-Muthurwa road which is expected to be complete in less than 12 months.
