Following the nurses strike that commenced yesterday in Kisii, which will paralyze treatment services in all public hospital, nurses from Migori county have welcomed patients from Kisii to receive treatment from their hospital.
Addressing journalists in Migori on Monday, the nurses through their leader said that they did not go on strike since the County government honored what was agreed in a rendezvous carried out on 2/12/2017 after the nurses had gone for a five months strike.
"The nurses are on duty, the reason being the county government of Migori agreed to pay them the money for work return formulae as agreed in 2/12/2017 when the nurses had downed their tools for five months. We are expecting an influx of patients from neighboring counties especially in Kisii, Homabay, and Narok," the Migori nurses’ leader said.
This comes shortly after nurses from 18 counties in Kenya declared to begin their strike on Monday until their due has been honored.
The residents in Kisii did not, however, take it lightly as most of them turned to social media to condemn the act of nurses to strike given that they earn more than other employees in the county and they are now jeopardizing residents’ lives.
