The Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology will on Friday host President Uhuru Kenyatta on the last day of his 2-day tour of Luo Nyanza region.
Uhuru began his tour in Kisumu County on Thursday, where he among others, launched the Universal Healthcare Coverage (UHC) in the company of opposition leader Raila Odinga.
On Friday, both leaders will be awarded a honorary doctorate degree with the institution saying that they have proved their qualification and deserving for the same.
The institution's Vice Chancellor Stephen Agong' said they the two have proven their statesmanship courtesy of their March 9 handshake which laid to rest the heated political division in the nation resulting from their 2017 presidential face-off.
"Our theme for this year’s graduation is ‘Science, Technology and Innovation for Peace and Socio-Economic Development’.
"This decoration, therefore, really fits within that realm given that our two leaders have demonstrated that they are true statesmen by causing peace and harmony for our beloved country," he told the Nation.
He said that the truce which enjoys massive support from Kenyans and leaders has proved to be very important to the nation, bringing it back to its feet.
“Therefore, in terms of social integration and harmony we all now can smile and do business as a country,” he added.
Uhuru will also launch water projects in the county before visiting the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga symposium in Sakwa Bondo, the home of the remains of the founding Vice President.
