Majority of female Members of Parliament in Nyanza served as teachers or lecturers, before joining the politics.

Below is a list of former teachers who are now legislators in the Luo Nyanza region:

1. Rosa Akinyi Buyu. 

Buyu is Kisumu County’s second Women Representative. 

She is serving her first term after being elected on the ODM party ticket last year.

Between 1986 and 1992, she was a high school teacher employed by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).

2. Dr Pamela Odhiambo. 

Dr Odhiambo is currently serving her first term as Migori County Women Representative. 

She started her career life as a trained high school teacher, but later advanced to be a University lecturer.

Yesterday, she made headlines after being involved in a grisly accident that left her bodyguard dead.

3. Dr Christine Ombaka

Ombaka is currently serving her second term as Siaya County Women Representative. 

Before joining politics, she served as the principal of Sinyolo Girls high school and a deputy Principal at Migingo girls secondary school.

4. Dr Lillian Achieng Gogo

She surprised many in the Luo Nyanza region when she defeated various candidates among them former MP George Oner to become the first female Rangwe MP in history.

Dr Gogo was a lecturer at Egerton and Kenya Methodist University before joining politics.
