The race for the 2022 general election continues to rage on across the political divide as politicians put in place strategies for their favorite seats.
In Homa Bay County, a number political heavy weights are said to be eyeing the governorship, after governor Cyprian Awiti vacates office.
Governor Awiti is serving his final term in office and has not hinted on who he prefers as his successor.
Here are vocal politicians who are likely to shape 2022 succession politics in Homa Bay county.
1. Gladys Wanga
She is serving her second term as the county's Woman Representative.
Wanga is a close ally of ODM party leader Raila Odinga.
She has been vocal on national issues and is a political force to watch in Homa Bay.
2. Moses Kajwang'
He succeeded his late brother Senator Otieno Kajwang' and is serving his second term in office.
The youthful senator is likely to play a key role in the county politics owing to his senatorial experience.
He has been calling for prudent utilization of public funds by county governors.
3. Peter Opondo Kaluma
A lawyer by profession, the Homa Bay Town MP is among politicians who will play a key role in the Nyanza politics.
On whether he is eyeing the Homa Bay gubernatorial seat, Kaluma says only time will tell.
"I can not make any comment at this point, may be in the future because right now, my focus is to serve residents as their MP," Kaluma said on Tuesday at Milimani Law courts.
4. John Mbadi
The Suba South MP is among veteran politicians in the county.
A close ally of Odinga, Mbadi will no doubt be among politicians to watch out for in 2022.
5.Millie Odhiambo
She is among vocal and experienced female politicians in the Nyanza region.
She speaks boldly on matters women rights and is a political force to watch in 2022.
