Mzee Moi has on different occasions gone to the Nairobi Hospital for routine check-ups.

The retired president has been receiving dignitaries in his Kabarak home. On Thursday, Gideon Moi seized the opportunity following the visit by South Sudanese President Salva Kiir to give the latest update on the health of Kenya's second president ahead of the Madaraka Day celebrations.

"Today, the President of South Sudan, H.E Salva Kiir, paid a visit to retired President, H.E Mzee Moi and briefed him on the ongoing peace initiative," said Moi.

He added: "President Kiir was glad to see Mzee Moi in good shape and health and deeply expressed his belief in achieving sustainable peace in South Sudan."

Last year in December, Mzee Moi spent several days at Nairobi Hospital. Later in March this year, he was yet again taken to the same facility.

“Mzee has been released after doctors gave him a clean bill of health after check-ups on his knee, which had been causing him discomfort,” read a statement from his office in December last year as quoted by the Nation.

In April this year, Moi was unable to join mourners for his eldest son Jonathan Moi's funeral service which was held at his Kabarak farm. He would, however, receive guests at his house.

Among those who visited him include President Uhuru Kenyatta, Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka, Chief Justice David Maraga and COTU boss Francis Atwoli.
