Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho, has advised Kenyans to resist politicians who influence them with money whenever they want to be elected.
The ODM deputy party leader clarified that elections should always be free and fair, starting from campaigns to tallying and counting of votes.
According to Joho, the quality of leadership should always be on the basis of ideologies and not how much money one can splash so as to be elected.
"I’d like to urge our supporters and Kenyans at large to resist the influence of money in our politics. The quality of leadership should be on the basis of ideologies," said the governor, who seeks to vie for the presidency through ODM party, in the 2022 general election.
Joho was addressing residents in Migori on Tuesday, as he led campaigns for Ochillo Ayacko, an ODM candidate in the Migori senatorial by-election slated for October 8.
While campaigning at Minyenya primary, Thim Lich, Matoso beach and Migori Bus park, Joho defended the ODM party and Ayacko, saying: "ODM, through our party processes and by the will of the people, believe Mr. Ochilo will be the best Senator for the people of Migori. That he best represents the interests of the people."
The governor also urged leaders across the country to unite and work together in the spirit of the building bridges initiative that was initiated by President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga on March 9.
"This country is not for sale but for selfless leadership."
