According to Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria, Kenyans with interest in the real estate sector now have the opportunity to provide housing facilities to police officers who he says used to crowd in police quarters.

According to the changes announced two days ago, Uhuru directed all junior officers to lose free housing within 90 days. They will now have to vacate houses in police lines and start receiving a house allowance as they live outside their respective stations of work.

"This will bring to an end vultures who have been hovering around seeking to provide 'affordable' housing to our servicemen and women," Kuria said in a Facebook post.

"Now we have a new market for 50,000 housing units just from a single announcement. This is very good news for the housing pillar under the Big 4. It also paves the way for our police officers to own their own houses under the National Tenant Purchase Scheme (TPS) under the Big 4."

One of Uhuru's key agendas, as he serves his final term, is to ensure the country builds more decent and affordable housing units especially for the urban population to ease congestion.
