Though she cuts the image of a harmless girl who cannot harm even a fly, Violet Kemunto is a sharpshooter trained in Somalia, police sources indicated.
Kemunto, whose photo while clad a hijab has been splashed by news sites, is a wanted terror suspect after the DusitD2 attack where six Al-Shabaab gunmen left up to 21 people dead.
One of the six gunmen, police said, was Ali Salim Gichunge who was reportedly married to Kemunto.
Since the attack, Kemunto fled their house in Guango and police have been after her.
Police sources said investigations so far show the Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) graduate married Gichunge on 2017.
From there, she went to Somalia where she was trained in commando attacks.
“She frequented Somalia after marrying Ali Salim Gichunge in 2017. The ceremony was attended by her siblings. In Somalia, she was radicalised and was known to be tough in gun tactics,” said a security source.
It has also emerged that the petite girl visited her mother in Ruai, weeks before the attack, and left several of her personal items.
She also told the mother that they, Kemunto and her husband, were planning to go for a vacation to make their wedding anniversary.
She, however, did not reveal the destination of their vacation.
