Former Justice and Constitutional Affairs Minister Martha Karua has addressed claims of lawyers aiding corruption in the country.
Karua was responding to a Twitter user who opined that lawyers are to blame for the deep-rooted corruption in the society because they aid and abet it by benefiting through their legal services.
"Lawyers can be blamed for corruption in Kenya, they are the main beneficiaries," noted Ngige Njenga, a Twitter user.
Ngige went ahead to list some of the top lawyers in the country, who he accused of being beneficiaries of corruption.
"@orengo_james @OAmollo and the likes reap from the Nasa side, @Paul_Muite @ahmednasirlaw @fredngatia from Jubilee, @CliffOmbeta lawyer of highest crimes the list continues," tweeted Njenga.
On her part, Karua acknowledged that a section of individuals in the law profession are indeed beneficiaries of corruption while others are aiding the vice.
"Professionals are part of the society and have their fair share of those benefitting from and aiding corruption," said Karua.
The no-nonsense politician, however, called upon the public to take collective responsibility in slaying the dragon through every workable strategy.
"Our individual and collective duty is to continue fighting the vice relentlessly!" she added.
